“Health is your greatest possession” – Lao Tzu

Hi, I am Stephen Boyle. I am a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist (FDN) and Holistic lifestyle coach under the Chek Institute.

“My mission here is to give you the tools and education you need, so you can adopt your own healthy lifestyle and carry it through your path in life. My job is to get to the underlying to your symptoms and seek out any hidden stressors and malfunctions within the the Hormonal, Immune, Digestive and Detoxification systems. We call these the 4 pillars and without these pillars doing their job properly, we see the whole system fall apart causing all sorts of symptoms to arise. We do this by using functional lab work to find any malfunctions within these 4 pillars. The protocol we use is a holistic lifestyle program, all natural to support the process and put an end to your symptoms.

I suffered through several health challenges myself and in 2012 the effects of too much stress snuck up on me. I had no idea how silent and dangerous stress can be. Let me share my story and how I ended up where I am now.

This is my Story

I have been working in the health and fitness industry since 2007. I grew up in Ireland and after a few years experience at a local gym I set out to experience what it would be like living in another country. I always enjoyed travelling and this was the perfect opportunity with Ireland being hit hard with the financial crises in 2008 there wasn’t a lot of work going around, so I moved to Vancouver Canada in 2011. Upon arriving in Vancouver I was blown away from day one. The active lifestyle and beautiful beaches, right beside stunning mountains….this place got it all. .

Doing what I love and living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, life was good. Unfortunately the good times didn’t last long. Just 11 months in to my new life and on the road to setting up my own business I ran into visa issues that caused a lot of stress. I thought I was handling the stress but obviously I wasn’t and one afternoon out of nowhere I had my first panic attack. This triggered a panic disorder to where my nervous system was stuck in flight or fight mode 24/7. At the time I thought there was something wrong with my heart but later figured out my body was acting normally to a stressful lifestyle that I made for myself. Worrying I had a serious heart condition fed the stress putting me in a vicious cycle that spiralled into many other symptoms such as depersonalisation, derealisation, digestive issues, insomnia, brain fog, anxiety the list goes on and on.

Here I was thinking am living this health lifestyle of clean eating and exercise but it wasn’t the answer for all the stress I was dealing with before everything came crashing down. This lead me on the path to help others take control of their lives and learn all the tools to look after themselves using the FDN model DRESS for success! Diet,Rest,Exercise, Stress and Supplements to support the process.

What I have learned from my experience is to eliminate as much stress as possible. Now stress is a huge net that covers many areas such as mental/emotional, Structural, Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental to name a few. Stress accumulates and the goal should be to eliminate as much as possible to create a stress buffer so you can face events that life will throw at us. We are always exposed to stress and we can’t let it take over. Exercise and diet is very effective on eliminating stress but we need to dig deeper. This is where FDN comes in and worked great for me. FDN uses lab work to seek out healing opportunities in the Hormone, Immune, Digestion and Detoxification systems.

Doctors where throwing pills at me and I refused knowing that wasn’t the answer. In the end I had to give in. I took the bare minimum, just enough to take the edge off the symptoms allowing me to get to work on my recovery. This way I could tell when I was taking the right steps instead of loading up on meds leaving me numb and not knowing when I was making progress. These struggles deepened my interest in restoring health by using a holistic approach,  I wanted to be in control of my body and not having to rely on meds for the rest of my life.

It was a long journey back to recovery, it took a lot of hard work. Now out of the deep end I was left wanting to learn more about managing stress and living a holistic lifestyle so to build a robust system that is able to fight off the stressors life throws at us. This led me to become certified as a Holistic Lifestyle Coach under the Chek Institute. Applying the principles that I learned from taking HLC got me on the fast road to recovery and gave me principles to live by. It thought me how little I really knew about what it meant to be healthy.  I realised being healthy wasn’t just about exercising and eating clean but also making sure the 4 pillars are working optimally as well as mental/emotional health.

After learning about stress and how it is the underlying cause to over 90% of all illnesses, my goal now was to learn how to eliminate as much stress as possible. Holistic lifestyle coaching gave me the tools to manage the mental/emotional stress and the education to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle….but there is more. We got hidden stressors that most people look past. This can be a huge underlying factor to why your not getting better and maybe the underlying cause to most of your symptoms. These hidden stressors can effect your hormones, immune system, digestion and detoxification systems that leave the door open to infection and disease.

How can I take it to the next level? This is when I became a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist (FDN). FDN practitioner is like your personal health detective. FDN allows me to run labs to seek out the HIDDEN stressors within these 4 pillars(hormone, immune, digestion and detoxification systems). The main focus here is to get to the underlying cause of the problem, not to just treat the symptom or even the test results. The test results are used as clues to find the root of the issue on hand.

When I started on this journey after dealing with panic disorder for over 1year. I set out a goal and wanted to find a method that build a robust body inside and out. To strengthen my adrenals and immune system to its full potential and always have a stress buffer so I can deal with the stressors life throws at me. FDN helps me build that resilient and robust body. Lets face it, there is no avoiding it, shit will hit the fan and you better be prepared!

In my case I pushed myself too far. You see stress can be split into 3 categories mental/emotional, structural and chemical/biochemical. My visa and work issues was taking a lot out of me mentally, so I had the M/E side of stress working overtime. There is an old neck injury that effects me everyday for the last 10 plus years, this would be an example of structural stress and later I found out I had a parasite with a bunch of food sensitivities, this would be biochemical stress. The stressors were accumulating and eventually the alarm bells rang out.

2 years after my recovery I ran labs on myself and the lab results showed stage 3 adrenal fatigue(which is the final stage) and the parasite with a few other issues. This little fella was keeping me company for god only knows how long. Just goes to show when your body is not working optimally, you leave the door open for invaders to come in. It wasn’t an easy ride back to health, it took a lot of discipline but I stuck to the principles and it paid off. This is about a lifestyle change, its not just change something in your diet for a few months and take these supplements. We are, the way we are because of our lifestyle.

Holistic Lifestyle Coaching teaches you how to manage your life better and deal with stress in a positive light.
